Top Ten FAQ
As a church we are brand new, so this page is an attempt to answer what we think are the top ten questions most people might be asking. We hope that you will know how welcome you are and want to invite you to give church a try! It's a great place to discover what your purpose is in life, as well as how you can grow deeper in your relationship with God.
Question # 1: What do you Value?
A: More than anything else we value a friendship with God. The greatest message that we have to share is that you have a special place in the heart of God. People matter to God and people matter to us! While we are far from perfect, our goal is to love God with all our hearts and love people in the same way. Consequently our emphasis is on people not programs, on relationships not religion.
Question # 2: How do you get connected at THE WAY?
A: Joining with us on Sundays is a great way to be part of THE WAY. However we know that as hard as we try, it is easy to slip between the cracks and go unnoticed. To avoid that we are starting up what we call Life Groups. Life groups are groups of 8 - 14 people who meet together on a regular basis, typically once a week. They can meet in houses, restaurants, offices - anywhere you want. The purpose of these Life Groups is to help you connect with a smaller group of people who in many ways become like an extended family. Together in your Life Group you will build friendships as you study God's word, the Bible. Sometimes the discussion may be around what was taught on Sunday or on a particular subject or book of the Bible. Did I mention food? While you may not eat a meal together every week, there are always some munchies around somewhere. Life Groups are a great way for you to care for people and to be cared for.
Question # 3: How do you pay the Bills?
A: THE WAY is supported through the generous gifts of the people who attend. We believe that when people who love God are part of a local church, they will cheerfully share in supporting that church. Be assured that there is no initiation fee or bill that will be sent to your home for services rendered!! Someone once said that "God's work, done in His way, will never lack for His resources." So as you share each week, know that we truly look to our Father in Heaven to provide our needs through each of you.
Question # 4: Is THE WAY a registered charity?
A: The answer is yes! What that means is that for any gifts of money that are given to this local church, we are able to offer a receipt for your charitable giving. The Bible teaches that we are entrusted servants of all that God gives us, including our money. So we invite you to share generously as the Lord puts it upon your heart.
Question # 5: Who are we affiliated with?
A: Presently we are an independent community church that does not have an affiliation with any denomination. We don't think that is necessarily good or bad, it's just the reality of who we are. For accountability Pastors Mike reports to the leadership team. All the monies given to the church are counted and handled by our treasurer Janice Roper and her assistants.
Question # 6: What about Children?
A: Check out our Waykidz link! We have a number of fantastic programs running and Pastor Irmari works really hard to create an entertaining and safe environment for our children. We are anticipating that very soon we will start up even more programs for kids.
Question # 7: What about Youth?
A: Fusion: (Grades 5 - 7) Click here for event details
B: Youth Group (Grades 8-12) - every Tuesday We will be meeting at South Arm United Church, from 7:00-8:00 for Bible study. See you!
Question # 8: What about Music?
A: One of the ways we worship at THE WAY is through inspiring music. Over the first 7 weeks, we have seen a number of musicians offer their talents. Thank you! Now on Thursday nights there is a regular practice. Want to serve in this area? Speak to Jaralin Detienne.
Question # 9: What about our Leadership Team?
A: When the decision was made to start THE WAY, Pastor Mike invited a group of people who he was already accountable to for Finding the Way Ministries to serve as a leadership team for this first year. They were a group of leaders already in place who were passionate to see this church come into existence. So in belief that God could do great things, they stepped out in faith with Mike and Terrie and the rest, as they say, is history. (Talk to Mike and he will tell you how grateful he is for each of them.)
And the final question is...
Question #10: Where does Mike get his jokes from?
A: No one seems to really have the answer to this question. Some have thought they are from rural Ontario where he grew up and still others have thought maybe Newfoundland, but it is a matter of concern to Mike's wife, family and the leadership team. We have all chosen to laugh at the jokes to avoid embarrassment for him - we encourage you to do the same.
